Before heading out, always check the weather forecast. Avoid paddling in strong winds, storms, or other adverse weather conditions that could make the water choppy or hazardous.
Always wear a properly fitted PFD while paddleboarding, regardless of your swimming abilities or the calmness of the water. A PFD can provide buoyancy and potentially save your life in case of an accident or unexpected fall.
Familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the San Juan River, including its currents, depth, and any potential hazards such as submerged rocks or fallen trees. Stay alert and attentive while paddling to navigate safely.
Assess your paddleboarding skills honestly and choose routes and conditions that match your abilities. If you’re a beginner, consider taking lessons or paddling with experienced companions.
Before setting out, inform someone reliable of your paddleboarding plans, including your intended route and estimated return time. This ensures that someone knows where you are and can raise the alarm if you encounter any difficulties.
In addition to wearing a PFD, consider bringing a whistle or signaling device and a marine radio for emergencies.
Be mindful of wildlife habitats and sensitive ecosystems along the riverbanks. Avoid disturbing wildlife and follow Leave No Trace principles by packing out all your trash and leaving the area as you found it.
*An additional $250 security deposit, per item, will be collected the day prior to the reservation and returned to the card when the equipment is returned.

Available for delivery only within the town of Port Renfrew. Address and clear directions required.
Drop off done between 8:30 -9:30 am and pick up is done at 5:30pm.
If drop off is at Pacheedaht campground, please meet us at the entrance of the campground.

We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express Credit Cards only. Credit card on file required to book. (Sorry our system cannot process visa or mastercard DEBIT cards)
We will take a $250 dollar refundable deposit per rental item.
Deposit is refunded to the credit card on return of all the equipment in satisfactory condition. Though the refund is processed immediately after equipment return it can take up to 10 business days for your credit card company to post the refund to your card.
Cancellations must be made via email 7 days prior to rental or through the booking site. If cancelling via email, you can reply to your rental equipment confirmation email.
Deposit and rental payment are taken once within the 7 day cancellation period
One of the benefits of booking your short term accommodation through Handsome Dans is if you book a watersport equipment rental during your stay you save 25%
To save the 25% please let us know your booking confirmation number at time of booking, or 7 days prior to your booking. Simply send us an email, or include your confirmation number in the “requests” section when booking your watersport rental.
We also offer the 25% discount to Port Renfrew locals, who can provide proof of address.
Each rental is for the day, starting at drop off between 8:30-9:30am and pick up at 5:30pm.
