French Beach

Location

  • From Victoria: 60.4 km, just over an hour drive from Victoria
  • From Sooke:  21.7km, under a half hour drive

Located on the scenic Strait of Juan de Fuca on the west coast of southern Vancouver Island, French Beach Provincial Park offers much more than just beautiful hiking trails through lush forests. It is a perfect location for young families, with no long hikes dragging the kids to reach the beach, as there’s paved access right from the parking lot.

Bring your frisbees, kite, ball and picnic basket. On your way to the beach, there are large lawn areas, picnic tables and a kids’ play area with slide and swing.

French Beach is composed of rocks, sand areas and driftwood. Wait, there’s more! There’s a little bridge, beyond which is another picnic area with a fire pit and benches. Continue the walk until you see a sign that reads Group area, and by following this cute little trail, you will eventually arrive at your destination. . .  a large covered area containing picnic tables, fireplace and sink. Outdoor toilets are conveniently nearby.
