The Lair is one of our pet friendly accommodation in Port Renfrew and can accommodate two comfortably or a family of four. It is a modern cottage newly built in 2011, including propane cooking stove and propane fireplace. It is furnish with a fully equipped kitchen, queen size bed in a separate bedroom and double hide-a-bed in living area. T.V with DVD movies, blue-ray player, Netflix and WiFi are provided.
Outside you will find a large front deck with a built in fire pit, an outdoor propane heater, BBQ and lots of lounge chairs make this place ideal for entertainment.
The Lair also has a long driveway almost 50ft long so can easily accommodate a boat or any other long vehicles. In December of 2012 The French Girl's Lair became even cozier when we installed a gas fireplace in the family room.
Exceptional Pacific Northwest Rainforest natural experience, hiking, beach combing, surfing nearby, storm watching at Botanical Beach, world class salmon and halibut fishing in season (may-Oct), abundant wildlife and the magnificent forest of Avatar Grove; a photographer's dream.
Five minutes of walking from the cottages will get you to the Pacific Gateway Marina if you’re going fishing or you want to take in the sea air. Tomi's dinner and The Coastal Kitchen Café are a five minute walk away if you get tired of your own cooking. The pub at the PortRenfrew Hotel is maybe a 15 minute walk.
You can get a few basic groceries at the Real Goods Market (open in season only) next to Tomi's dinner. A bigger selection of groceries including beer, wine and liquor can be bought at the General Store on Parkinson Road (open from 11am-7pm everyday). It’s a good idea though to stock up on groceries on your way to Port Renfrew in Sooke or Cowichan Lake if you are travelling from the other direction. Of course everyone takes credit cards, debit cards and that ancient currency, cash.

The cabin was really well-situated in a quiet 'village' of similar cabins, ideal for hitting all the local beaches and trails, and a quick walk to the pub and café (highly recommended). The kitchen was really well-stocked (so often not the case in rental cabins like this) so preparing meals was quite enjoyable. No view, though, so #17 is more of a base of operations than a place to hang out.
Sadly, the bed was more like a hammock – really needs a new, more supportive mattress – my girlfriend and I both found it very uncomfortable and had sore backs by the second morning.
Thanks Matt for your comment, we appreciate your feedback... I must say you are the very first guest commenting about the bed. We frequently see comments telling us how comfortable the bed is, and we sleep on it regularly, and find it very comfortable. Perhaps you are use to a more hard mattress.
Frist of all, we would like to Thank you, Hi Dan, you got a very nice helpful staff. THANK YOU. Because OF OUR SUDDEN PLANNING and ONLY stay one night , we couldn't find a place even a camp site at that time, However, after your lady answered me that she can find a cabin for me even one night. That's a amazing. Last but not least, cabin is well stocked and clean, LOVE IT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Before we arrived I got a phone call to give me instruction. Then an email with door code and phone numbers in case.
I felt well taken care of. No stress. Just shoe up and do what we wanted.
The place had it all.
Thanks for a great experiNce
Our family enjoyed a lovely escape to Port Renfrew. We live in Victoria so not very far but worth staying over night! So many things to see and do in Port Renfrew! Cabin was ideal for the two nights. For our family, I would look for a larger cabin if we were staying longer. But this little cabin had everything one could need.
Perfect for a couple, we spent two nights, cottage very cozy and comfortable, kitchen well equipped. Wish we could have stayed longer - the area is great - we highly recommend it!
